The story of Popol Vuh is the story of creation.
As the Maya story goes, all physical presence of the earth was scattered throughout the heavens in the form of gases and space dust and spores of biological lifeforms. These seeds of life were manipulated by overlords to create animal life and humanity.

Biological evidence in the first element.


All this earthly matter came together over time but the first element to bond was water.
"The surface of the earth had not appeared. There was only calm sea and the great expanse of the sky.....only the Creator, the Maker, Tepeu, (and)Gucumatz, the Forefathers, were in the water surrounded with light...hidden under green and blue feathers."

The Popol Vuh story continues from here to explain how through a series of experiments the overlords who possessed divining powers were able to transform the elements of creation,Earth,Water, Wind, and Fire into what planet earth is today. The Popol Vuh contains the cosmic concepts, cultural traditions, and chronological record of historical chiefs or kings up to the year 1550.

The original copy was found by Father Ximenez, a Franciscan Catholic monk, living in Chichicastenango.

Quiché, along with Kakchiquel, Kekchi, Mam, and others, is a dialect of a group of Mayan languages that are found throughout western Central America and into Mexico. Most of the indigenous populations of this region speak a Mayan dialect. In general, the population speaking both a dialect and Spanish is male.
In the over 500 years following the Spanish Conquest, Quiché has evolved to include much that is common to Spanish in terms of grammar and vocabulary. Where words describing Spanish concepts do not exist in the Qu........

The author of the Popol Vuh is not clearly identifiable but it is believed to be the work of a Mayan, skilled in the spanish language, who had survived the Spanish/Mayan battles that destroyed much of the Quiche nations. This Mayan of the Quiche nations along with other survivors of these battles later made their home in Chichicastenango.

Father Ximenez was transcribing the Popol Vuh to the Spanish language around 1700 AD. The whereabouts of the original Popol Vuh is not known therefore it remains a mystery has to the accuracy or even the existence of such a book.
