2012 Period Sees Climate Shift In UK
During the summer of 2007 the UK experienced unprecedented rainfall for the months of May and July. The towns of Tewkesbury, Cheltenham, Stroud and the city of Gloucester were all hit hard. This is where I happen to live, and the nature of my job meant this directly affected me.
Not only was my job greatly effected by the flooding but also I lost my water for the first time in my life, as did many others. Ladies and Gentlemen let me tell you that we do not live in a state where natural unity and ‘blitz spirit’ will see us through everything. The reality on the ground was that civilised behaviour although the norm was rapidly decaying. There were fights in local supermarkets over produce and water bottles, people having punch-ups. The ‘Bowsers’ (a word I had to look up in a dictionary) were stationed at sites around the town and filled by water companies. The problem was that so many were quickly vandalised or worse they had bleach, or broken glass poured into them, or even human urine.
Not sure about you but that did not seam a good sign to me about what would happen if we continued to have increasing weather catastrophe in years to come. Though the flooding was relatively localised to certain areas of the country, it still had a huge impact on business and people nation-wide. At one point there were also many with no water or electricity either and dealing with flooded streets.
A debate quickly raged about whether this was a further sign of climate change and a shape of things to come. With time the standard answer for such things, mere chance, and freak events once every two hundred years simply. Some scientists remained sceptical but towed the line, and eventually the subject faded away. Of course some of us were more sceptical still, and remained convinced we were seeing a rapid climate shift in England. I am a Trinidadian-English person whom has also lived in Thailand I am familiar with tropical weather. It seems obvious to me that we now have a sub-tropical weather system over the UK the rainfall pattern is consistent with more traditionally tropical climates. Winters have now nearly faded away, snow is a rare occurrence and trees and plants left confused about the true start of spring. Then during the moderately warmer months we experience massive downpours, lets refer to those as what they are, ‘the rainy season’. There are now only the three seasons and they are much like those in sub-tropical countries. We seem to have just a ‘dry season’, a ‘hot season’, and indeed a ‘rainy season’.
Of course we must remember that the official line is that this is a freak event and will probably not happen for another 200 years. Well there is a problem with that theory, it is July 2008 (1 year later) and I am sat typing with rain tipping down outside my window. It has been raining for a couple of days straight already and looks set to continue awhile yet. Local towns are already experiencing flooding following rains of once again unprecedented amounts. It seems the BBC is saying that a month’s rain fell in a period of merely twenty-four hours.
It would appear to me that it will be hard to except that this is merely a freak event any more, bearing in mind the loss of the traditional snowy English winter.
In my short lifetime climate shift has been obvious to me. It’s clear that the last decade has been extraordinary in the history of man. With a flow of such events and other radical happenings world-wide, it seems ridiculous to keep pulling out the tired lines about freak events. Tornadoes and cyclones now hit countries very hard on a very regular basis. Mexico, America, Japan, China, Bangladesh, India and other nations have all been hit by anomalous weather events on massive scales that have devastated large areas killing many hundreds of thousands of people (knowing our warped press reporting, the true figure may be in the millions).
At times I feel like I am walking in a dream world when looking at such evidence right in front of me, after years of study and my own predictions of climatic shift based on my research conclusions. These are not dozens of unconnected freak events but rather clearly are evidence of our planets changing climate, due to the same unseen hand that is perturbing our Sun and the all our fellow Sol circling planets.
The people of the UK need to wake up to the new reality that is forming itself right before there slumbering eyes. We day by day seem to sleep walk into what is clearly a dangerous cultural place, police state rules and an ignoring of evidence that our culture is about to face its greatest ever challenge. We face a world, in which it can not exist, being entirely at odds with the actual situation in the surrounding physical environment. Anyone with even a passing education can comprehend that we can’t continue to rapidly consume if there are fewer and fewer resources, and if indeed by our consuming we are speeding up a rapid climate shift event. Alongside that we continue the headlong plunge into the war on terror, a clearly eternal war as by its very nature it has no possible ending other than extinction. In a totalitarian police/military state, it becomes more and more easy for the term’s ‘citizen’ and ‘terrorist’ to blend into one. Anyone is automatically under suspicion of something, and the best way to process that type of reality is to ensure all people are monitored via all communication mediums. Ideally of course people would be chipped for easier monitoring, but it is not absolutely necessary. Powerful people have traditionally managed to control populations with far less technology than that.
Does it seem likely that a civilisation embroiled deeply in an eternal war on terror, seeking to expand its conflicts and ensure materialism and over consumption are available for all peoples of the Earth (survivors that is) will fare well in a period of climatic shift and dwindling resources?
Though I am not a 2012 doomsday theorist and utterly reject the idea of a doomsday date set by anyone, it does seem to me that we are having a rather drawn out version of one. Earthquakes, storms, ice-melt, tsunami and volcano eruptions, all seem to have become every day affairs for somewhere in the world at this time. Although quietly confident that mankind is capable of blundering through its period of greatest risk, I am also aware that we are not helping ourselves much currently and I see much strife and much fear ahead for many. Clearly I will not be outside these events, none will be in the end, as they will be more constant and global simultaneously.
Climate shifts are real events, not the stuff of fantasy and fiction, the Earth’s history is dotted with them and indeed with past rapid loss of species. We should prepare for the worst but hope for the best, which has been how humans have weathered events like the ice age and pandemic disease. All else is utter madness, a clearly suicidal tendency within a sickened culture of pure materialism.
Its still raining outside my window, I wonder when it will stop?
